A case that shook the world: Cycling star confessed to causing his wife’s death.

MELBOURNE – Former Australian cyclist Rohan Dennis formally confessed to causing the accident that led to the death of his wife, Melissa Hoskins.

Judge Ian Press granted Dennis bail on Friday until April 14, when the hearing will continue with further proceedings.

Dennis was previously charged with dangerous driving and driving without due care, causing the death of 32-year-old Hoskins. Last December, he reached an agreement with the prosecutor to reduce the charges, meaning he now faces up to seven years in prison for a lesser offense.

Dennis was arrested after his vehicle struck Hoskins in front of their home in Adelaide on December 30. The Australian suffered severe injuries, which led to her passing the following day in the local hospital.

Dennis and Hoskins married in 2018 and have two children together. Dennis claimed two world time trial titles (2018, 2019), while Hoskins competed in the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016 in the team time trial. In 2015, she was part of the team that won the world championship title in this discipline.
