After his sensational performance at the Giro, a bright future was predicted for him: Czech talent ends his career at 24.

PRAGUE – Cyclist Karel Vacek has decided to end his career at the age of 24.

The participant of the 2021 Giro d’Italia, where he secured second place in the seventh stage, made the announcement on Instagram. The older brother of the Czech cycling star Mathias Vacek shared that he no longer saw his path in the sport.

Vacek raced last season for the Spanish team Burgos BH. His last race with the team was the WorldTour Bretagne Classic-Ouest-France at the end of August.

“It took me some time to come to terms with this decision because a lot has happened in my life in recent months. I decided this because I no longer saw my path in cycling.

I gave it my all, I set the highest goals for myself since I was young. Some of them I managed to achieve, but certainly not the ones I had set,” Vacek wrote. His most significant result as a professional was the second-place finish in the Giro stage.

“I will definitely stay involved in cycling and sports in the future because it has been and will remain a big part of my life,” added the former great Czech cycling talent, who also had stints with the elite South African team Qhubeka ASSOS and the Spanish team Corratec.
