Danish Cycling Star Outlines Ambitious Plans for 2025: “Can’t” and “Impossible” Are Not in His Vocabulary.
Two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard has confirmed his ambitious plans for the 2024 season, announcing that he will once again take on both the Tour de France and Vuelta a España.
The 28-year-old Danish rider, a key figure for Visma–Lease a Bike, is currently in the midst of intense preparations for the upcoming season, aiming to defend his Tour de France title while also challenging for victory in Spain.Vingegaard is no stranger to the grueling double challenge of cycling’s most prestigious Grand Tours. In 2023, he delivered a remarkable performance, claiming his second consecutive Tour de France victory with a dominant display over rival Tadej Pogačar. He then followed it up with a strong showing at the Vuelta a España, where he finished second overall behind his then-teammate, American climber Sepp Kuss.
A Relentless Pursuit of a Third Tour de France Title
For Vingegaard, the Tour de France remains the pinnacle of professional cycling. Speaking to AFP, he emphasized the significance of the race: “The Tour de France means everything to me. It’s the biggest race of the year, and there’s something truly special about it. That’s why I want to be in my best possible form to fight for the win. Of course, my main goal is to take my third Tour title.”
To ensure he arrives at peak condition for the Tour, Vingegaard has mapped out a rigorous schedule leading up to July. His early-season plans include competing in two prestigious multi-day races: Paris-Nice and the Volta a Catalunya. Both races will serve as key stepping stones in his preparation, helping him fine-tune his form against elite competition.
Van Aert’s Dual Grand Tour Campaign
While Vingegaard sets his sights on Tour and Vuelta success, his high-profile teammate Wout van Aert will take on a different challenge. The versatile Belgian star is set to compete in both the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia in 2024, though his primary focus will remain on the one-day classics. Van Aert will once again target victories at monuments such as the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix, two of the most prestigious and grueling races in the cycling calendar.
With Vingegaard leading the charge in the Grand Tours and Van Aert aiming for dominance in the classics, Visma–Lease a Bike is gearing up for another season of high expectations. As the cycling world awaits the battles that lie ahead, Vingegaard’s decision to tackle the Tour-Vuelta double underscores his hunger for greatness—and his determination to cement his place among the sport’s legends.
