Taylor Swift booed, Trump welcomed with roaring applause
Donald Trump made history as the first U.S. president to attend the Super Bowl, receiving a thunderous ovation from the crowd.
The Philadelphia Eagles emerged victorious in Super Bowl LIX (59), defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22, despite the Chiefs being the favorites. Had the Chiefs won, they would have become the first team in Super Bowl history to secure three consecutive championships. The highly anticipated event attracted numerous celebrities and politicians.
Among them was Taylor Swift, who attended in support of her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. However, the Grammy-winning singer received a mixed reaction. When she appeared on the stadium’s big screen during Sunday’s game, parts of the audience responded with boos. Tennis legend Serena Williams defended Swift on X (formerly Twitter), urging her to ignore the negativity.
In contrast, Trump was greeted with loud cheers and applause. His presence at the game had been a topic of discussion in the days leading up to the event, particularly after Kelce expressed enthusiasm about the former president attending. “I think it would be a great honor, no matter who the president is,” Kelce said.
His comments raised eyebrows, given Swift’s well-known opposition to Trump and her vocal stance against Republican policies. Trump himself has taken jabs at Swift, previously posting on social media that he “hates” her.
